The LSU WHOCC is comprised of several faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students with a wide range of interests creating a resource of diverse skills and research techniques. The WHOCC team provides both academic and applied skills in geospatial analysis, GIS field methods, telemetry, web mapping, and epidemiology. |

Andrew Curtis, PhD— Assistant Professor / WHOCC Lab Director |

Andrew is the lab director for the LSU WHOCC and an assistant professor in the Department of Geography and Anthropology. His research interests focus primarily on GIS, spatial analysis, and Medical Geography. |

Martin Hugh-Jones, DVM, PhD — Professor Emeritus |
|
Martin founded the LSU WHOCC and is recently retired from the Department of Pathobiological Sciences at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. Martin’s lab is now housed in the Department of Environmental Studies. |

Jason K. Blackburn, PhD — Lab Manager (Former Soviet Union Research) |
|
Jason manages WHOCC projects in the former Soviet Union. His research focuses on GIS, PDA-GPS technologies, wildlife telemetry, animal movements, disease ecology, and disease surveillance with web– GIS. |

Sarah E. Hinman, M.A.— Researcher / PhD Candidate (ABD) |
|
Sarah is a graduate student in Geography. Her research focuses on the use of GIS and spatial analyses to reconstruct historic disease outbreaks. Her research combines her interests in historical geography and GIScience. |

Francis Currin, M.A.— PhD Student (ABD) / Researcher |
|
Francis is a graduate student in Geography. Her research focuses on the social and human aspects of disease outbreaks. Her current focus is on the impacts of Chagas disease on the rural communities of Southern Mexico. |

Tim “Andrew” Joyner, Undergraduate worker |

Andrew joined the lab as an incoming freshman geography major. Tim has become actively involved in learning GIS and providing data entry, data management, and database development for several WHOCC projects. |

Gerardo Boquin, B.S.— Graduate Student / Researcher |

Gerardo’s research interests integrate field entomology, medical geography, and spatial epidemiology. He currently works with Chagas disease and anthrax. He also works web-based databasing and mapping techniques. |

Angela Antipova— PhD Student / Researcher |
|
Angela is a new student in the WHOCC and is working on the application of GIS and spatial analysis to evaluate the role of depression in infant mortality and infant health in Louisiana. This project is an extension of Dr. Curtis’ long-term research on perinatal disparity and infant mortality. |
